“Hush” by Ceclia Richardson

2020 Poetry Winner

No other sounds are
able to compare to
the all-consuming sound of

She watches you
here to there,
there to here
and takes over every
microscopic in of your ear.

She waits ‘til alone
you are in the
intense depths of dark
sitting in the corner
preparing to make her mark.

She spreads like wildfire
taking up every inch of your room
playing tricks,
no treats.
All you can sense is
never-ending doom.

She clogs your ears
wanting you to feel her pain.
She is the thing
driving you mad.
She cuts it all off,
better you feel thinking
she feels bad,
but she takes pride in knowing
she will be the last thing
you ever hear.
