Scavenger Hunt!

Saturday, October 7 from 9:30 am to 6 pm at Event Horizon

For $20-$25 per group, you can go on a great adventure with friends and win prizes and bragging rights. This fundraiser for our nonprofit organization may take you all over the Twin Cities to collect items for points, and may even drive you into the depths of your own closet/attic/basement for buried treasure. You will be asked to find and bring a number of objects as well as photos to our intrepid judges (who are open to bribes). Our slate of judges this year is particularly fond of chocolate and pastries.

GPS membership is free

Basic membership participation is subscribing to our monthly newsletter. That’s it. Your information will remain private and you will get a curated list of all the geeky things happening in the Twin Cities, including ours. If you volunteer for us, you can earn voting rights to help guide our organization and entry into the card-carrying geek program. Consider using the donate button to the right and becoming a sustaining member if you like our mission. The funds will be used for our educational and community outreach, and you will unlock new levels of the card-carrying geek program.

Night out with GPS at Byte

We are pairing up with Byte for a brand new fundraiser! Come support GPS while dining on amazing food in a fun atmosphere! Added bonus, it also supports a local geeky bar. Byte has yummy food, board games you can check out, and great beers on tap. A portion of all the proceeds from that day (10am to 1am) go to GPS, so you can stop by any time!

Support GPS at CONvergence July 6-9, 2017

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 7800 Normandale Blvd, Bloomington, MN 55439

Our strategic partner Convergence Events, Inc. hosts a fabulous 6,500-person sci-fi convention where you can find and support GPS in a number of ways.

Visit our room party in Cabana 110 Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. We’ll also be holding low-key gatherings during the day as well. Check our posters at the convention for the schedule.

Shop our Charity Auction in Atrium 8 Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All proceeds go to our  non-profit organization which sends kids to SpaceCamp, science and arts educators into schools, and manages a community center called Event Horizon for our fellow geeks to host events and meetings.

Buy GPS merchandise at the CONvergence merchandise kiosk near Main Stage. Help us promote our organization by wearing a t-shirt or hat, using a travel mug, or applying a sticker or cling to a laptop or window (not the hotel’s). Again, all proceeds go to support our efforts in science education and community-building.

Attend our panels:

  • Writing Contest reception and reading at 5 pm on Thursday, July 6 (Atrium 2)
  • Iron Pen flash fiction (100 words or less) writing contest sponsored by GPS at Connie’s Sand Box at 11 am on Friday, July 7 (Plaza 2)
  • Raptor Center panel at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 8 (Atrium 4)
  • Meet the GPS Board, club heads and partners at 11 am on Saturday, July 8 (Atrium 2)
  • Join us at our Charity Auction Live Auction event at 11 am on Sunday, July 9 to see what our most popular items are and make a bid for one. (Atrium 7)

Find GPS at Twin Cities Pride on June 24 and 25

1382 Willow Street, Minneapolis, MN 55403

We will be in the red zone just northwest of the lake in booths R075 and R077. Many of our partners will be joining us to talk to festival attendees about our events and community. Look for us in the parade on Sunday at 11 am too!

Join us this Saturday, June 10 around noon for our Annual Picnic

Cherokee Regional Park, 700 Cherokee Heights Blvd, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55107

Set up starts around noon, food should be coming off the grill somewhere between 1 and 2.

We have the large pavilion and will be providing grillables with bakery delivery systems; plates and flatware and napkins; and condiments to customize your (possibly charred) protein of choice.  We will have some soda and water as well. Feel free to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Geek Physique and/or United Geeks of Gaming may provide activities involving flying objects and score keeping.

We invite all our members, our partners’ members, and anyone interested in geeky/nerdy things to join us.

Congratulations to our two new Directors!

At the GPS Annual Meeting on May 15, 2017 our membership appointed two new Directors, Ashley Tait and Sarah Sexton. They join Seth Chmelik, Ann Roubik, and Jody Wurl as voting Board members. Our officers are Dave Vetrovec (Treasurer), Kathye Coyle (Secretary), Seth Chmelik (President) and Ann Roubik (Vice President).
